Why Use A Collection Agency?

Why continue to use your resources to collect money owed to you when you could be using those resources to service paying customers or to obtain new customers?

Also, you know your customers.  When a customer has a relationship with you it can make it that much easier for them to postpone paying you.  It also may make it awkward for you to approach them for the outstanding balance.

A collection agency acts on your behalf.  More importantly, contact from a collection agency makes your debtors realize that you are serious about collecting the money they owe you.  In addition, most debtors will cooperate with a collection agency to prevent damage to their credit rating.

Why Can A Collection Agency Collect Money When I Can't?

A letter or phone call from a collection agency is sometimes enough to get the debt paid immediately, or at least to get a response.  Sometimes the person may feel embarrassed and/or want to prevent more collection letters and phone calls.

A collection agency can also report the debt to the credit bureaus if it remains unpaid.  This can affect the debtor's ability to borrow money or buy goods on credit.  The fear of a collection agency damaging credit is one of the strongest incentives toward getting the debt paid.
